In the Legislative Council Chamber
- Casket placed on catafalque
- Vigil is mounted
- The Governor-General pays her respects and lays a wreath on behalf of The Queen
- The Governor-General presents the campaign medals and lays these on the casket
- The Prime Minister pays her respects and lays a wreath on behalf of the Government and people of New Zealand
- Wreaths are then laid by The Speaker of the Parliament of New Zealand, The Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, The Leader of the Opposition, The Chief of Defence Force, National President RNZRSA, .The Vice Chairman of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission
- The Governor-General and Prime Minister sign the ‘In Memoriam' Book
- Their Excellencies are farewelled by the Prime Minister at the foot of Parliament steps
- 2nd Royal Salute as the Vice Regal car passes in front of the Guard of Honour
- Visitation by National Veterans' organisation representatives led by the Minister of Veterans Affairs
- Presentation of the RSA Gold Badge
- Lying-in-State commences

- Blessing of the grave by the Principal Defence Chaplain Colonel Julian Wagg QHC

- Tri Service Firing Party with Rifle Volleys (Military's final farewell) interspersed with the RNZN Band playing 'Abide With Me'.
- The Last Post (using 3 trumpeters/cornets and played from the entrance to the National War Memorial

- Their Excellencies and The Prime Minister and other VVIPs proceed to Massey University
- Following the ceremony invited guests and members of the public will be able to pay their respects and place a poppy in the tomb. The sealing of the Tomb with a concrete lid and bronze Tomb mantle will then occur. NZDF Vigil will conclude once the Tomb mantle has been secured.
